K-Beauty Skincare Routine: Toner Techniques for Radiant, Dewy Skin

Let’s Talk Toner (a.k.a. “Skin” in K-Beauty Style!)

Today, let’s chat about skin! Wait—what? Skin?

Yep, in Korea, when we say “skin,” we’re not talking about your actual skin—we mean toner! You might hear it called “lotion” somewhere else, but in K-Beauty, “skin” usually refers to that watery, liquid-y stuff that feels super light. You’ll also hear it called toner. But of course, Koreans don’t just slap it on—we’ve got techniques. Let me introduce you to Wipe Toner, Pat Toner, and the famous Saline Toner Pack.

1. Wipe Toner (a.k.a. “Dakteo”)

“Dakteo” literally means “wipe toner.” Here’s the deal: your skin naturally sheds dead skin cells every 28 days, but sometimes, it needs a little help. So you soak a cotton pad with toner and gently wipe away those leftover dead cells. But here’s the catch—this method can be a bit harsh, especially if your skin is sensitive. Always match it to your skin condition!

For example, I have a weak skin barrier, so I only do it twice a week. But wow—it really helps with whiteheads. Seriously, I see a difference!

2. Pat Toner (a.k.a. “Hubteo”)

This is the usual way of using toner—just pour some into your hands and gently pat it into your face like you’re giving your skin a mini spa moment. Chop chop chop! (That’s the sound of patting. Obviously.)

There’s even a version called the 7-skin method—yes, SEVEN layers of toner! You apply, pat, repeat… seven times. It leaves your skin feeling like it just took a long, luxurious bath—soaked, soft, and super hydrated. The only downside? It’s kind of a hassle, so let’s be honest… I usually just swipe it on quickly and call it a day.

3. Saline Toner Pack

This one’s been trending lately, especially for sensitive skin. Just soak some cotton pads in saline solution and place them on your face for about 5 minutes. It helps calm down irritation and redness.

Personally, I haven’t tried this one yet. My skin is sensitive, but it’s more of a “barrier’s broken, and I’m breaking out in a couple of spots” type, not the all-over-red-and-itchy kind. So it didn’t feel like a must for me—yet!

There you go—some fun and useful ways to use toner in your routine!
Honestly, I think toner is super important. (But then again, what step isn’t? Haha.) I always look for toners that suit my skin type, and I personally prefer ones with ingredients like glycerin or plant extracts.

If your skin looks dull or tired, it’s probably because of built-up dead skin. If you’re way too lazy for all this wiping and patting, try a toner that has just a tiny bit of exfoliating ingredients in it—just enough to keep your skin smooth without the effort!

Then I will be back with other useful information! See you!
